Sunday I do laundry.
Last week I didn’t because of my domestic brilliance
Today is Monday, but as it’s Columbus Day I took it as a day off of “work – work” to tackle the ”to do” list with a bit more vengenace. Truth is I needed the space to ramble today. I was feeling overwhelmed.
The world today was seemingly divided – if you had kids in school it was a day off, if you live around me the kids have tomorrow off too!!
Our town yesterday had this abandoned feeling – everyone seemingly left – when I walked the dog noone was around – very weird
Didn’t help that it was so darn hot out
If you are a business person today and you were working than it was business as usual. ( YAWN )
Traditionally Columbus Day for us as a family was a treck downtown museum day — not anymore now that they are older – sure do miss that.
I was behind on laundry yesterday because I hung out with my kids instead – needless to say I did a bit of laundry today
But back to last Sunday and laundry day — and my domestic brilliance moment
It occurred to me that the laundry loads were not as full since my son left ( he left a month ago – do you believe it??)
It occurred to me to ask my daughter if she had 7 more pairs of underware and could she wear some of her regular jeans again — she said yes. I then went and counted MY underware and lo and behold we both had enough for another week
That means I can get by with skipping a week of laundry
I don’t know about you or if you even realize what this means
I have been doing laundry weekly since 1977
For 30 years it’s what I do — DID!!!
I now have reduced my laundry by 50% merely by wearing every last pair of underware we own, and wearing all of our socks, and by being more on purpose about full loads.
I will save money, water, electricity, gas and laundry detergent – I will pollute less, and wear all the clothes I own rather than the t shirt that’s always on the top
I feel this is the ultimate in Domestic Brilliance!!
I have to find something fantastic to do now with my sunday evening non-laundry time!!
