The Morran Book Project

Camilla Engman is an artist that I absolutely adore.  I find her work delightfully original and authentic.   Her blog is an example I share often of an artist who give us a peek at her every day life.   I visit her regularly feeling a kindred connection to her personal world and her art.

Recently she shared that her beloved dog Morran was dying.  All of us who follow Camilla know the deep deep love she had for her Morran.  In a way I’d expect of Camilla she devised a creative project to help her cope, asking folks to send renditions of her Morran for a book who’s proceeds would all go to charity.

The unfolding of illustrations sent was beyond touching.  It was remarkable.

The completed absolutely charming book is available for sale and to completely view here

and the story of how it all became is shared at this blog

Mack Glass Third Annual

a glass artist, jason mack assembles his rusty steel frame into a triangular form, also known as his third annual holiday tree

this year the event parallels a large local long standing fundraising campaign

as a live performing artist Jason melts thousands of lbs of donated recycled glass and spins hot thin threads onto a rotating frame

one layer at a time he builds an absolutely lovely glass spectacle

on view through December.

Tea Cups

the tea cup above was taken on my most recent trip

it’s a favorite of my girlfriends deceased mom – her mom absolutely loved the color yellow

below is a piece I took for a flickr photo slideshow that I made for my sister who lives in seattle

kindof a nice way to share home at a distance

recently i was invited to speak on a panel as a contributing photographer for a local gallery

we were asked to bring pieces that represented the theme “gatherings”

I brought images of garden, home and food

all distinct representations of gathering for me…

what was significant about this event

is I was there as an artist…

I like to say I am a closet artist

one that hasn’t come “out” of the closet

just yet anyway

I truly do  feel this way

my facebook page hosts much of my photography portfolio

and many have been very complimentary

Pam at Eaton Gallery has been truly encouraging of me and my work

at the event I was told that ” I was an artist” and that my work was “remarkably naive and refreshing”

imagine how remarkable that felt for me!!!

I met other profoundly talented photographers

and found myself so inspired

Best of all

I SOLD this print below to Martha Burk of Gallery 404

How tremendous is that!!

Artist Matthew Tannebaum

I was gifted this delightful AP “intaglio” print by IWU graduate Matthew Tannebaum.   He and my daughter went to grade school together.  She felt this piece in particular would go with my house!   It’s true.  It fits right in!!  Matthew majored in Music – with a voice concentration and minored in Art. He sang in IWU’s Collegiate Choir w/ my Kate and he is on his way to earning  a Masters in Architecture! Wow!

“Esmeralda”  Intaglio Print by Matthew Tannebaum

I asked him a few questions about himself and his work.

Tell me about this print! The print – The genre of print is “intaglio” which is when an image is “incised into a surface or a plate” (wikipedia). Basically this image was created by applying a ‘hard ground’ to the surface of a zinc plate that protected the plate from the acid bath. I then hand drew the image into the hard ground, exposing the metal plate underneath. Thus when I placed it in the acid bath, the plate was etched in the exposed area leaving a place for the ink to gather. (This is actually my very first attempt at intaglio and this is the very first print I ever made of that plate – it’s since undergone a few modifications to improve the quality of the image. The AP to the left underneath the image stands for artist’s proof!)

What are your interests and future studies? Going to Syracuse University this fall for a Master in Architecture. I love interior design, technology, cooking, pop culture, fine dining, traveling, playing tennis, contemporary art and music.

Any quirks? I love to judge a restaurant by how their bathroom’s are designed.  Favorites are Mad Cow in Sydney, Australia, TRU in Chicago, IL, and RL (Ralph Lauren Restaurant) in Chicago, IL.  Number one travel destination and on the top of my list is Dubai, UAE.

May I have a picture of you? OK Matthew said – but it’s cheesy

Do you have a site w/ images of other works ? Matthew Tannenbaum

Matthew says if anyone is interested in contacting him they can at mltannenbaum ( at ) gmail.com.

All of his prints/drawings are available for purchase!!!
