i am authoring this post in response to a weight loss friend who recently lost an entire clothing size…YAY!!

She wrote because she noticed some indulging behavior. especially on the weekends.

Specifically she wrote: I have made the mistake of overindulging Fri & Sat night and gaining back a few pounds, then losing later in week…keeps me a bit plateaued, so I need to stop that. Figuring it would be better to ”reward” myself with a lemon bar.

I think the key phrases in her sharing are indulging and reward. The answer, as it often is…is choices.

The good thing is the observation. Noticing the behavior patterns. I hope the thoughts below are helpful …

I’ve learned that if I buy foods that I indulge in too much of, that perhaps that food purchase is not a good choice for me. Cookies are an example of that. I will stand in the store and stare at that bag of Matt’s oatmeal cookies, are you familiar with them? loaded with cranberry and walnuts oh my gosh. I also know that if I buy them. I will eat them. ALL. Too many “all” because if they are in my house they tempt me. So I drool over them in the store instead, probably longer than I should and walk away from purchasing them. ( i swear I was just drooling over one of these bags of cookies the other day!!)

I have also learned that I have a taste for something sweet after a meal “habit”. I grew up with dessert after dinner every single day!! I have to decide in my healthy lifestyle what choices will I give myself. This is a forever lifestyle. Not, I am on a weight loss program now and I get to eat whatever I want later program.

It’s a bit like a declaration. I eat well because I choose to.

This isn’t easy.

What are my healthy choices?

In the sweet department, I keep a good dark chocolate around. In my mind I allow myself one square – cut into 4. This gives me 4 lovely bits of chocolate burst in my mouth. It’s a lot like eating more than one square. Have I ever ever had more than one square?? I have!! The former me however would have eaten the entire bar!

I adore dates or prunes. gosh, 4 of those and I am very sweet tooth satisfied.

I have been known to also have a bit of yogurt with fruit, nuts and raisens on top as a food reward. small serving, but enough to feel like it’s a treat, especially if i use a pretty glass to put it in.

Apples and peanut butter, or a portion controlled bit of cheese…are all also choices for something to eat that feels like a celebration!! What ideas do you have?? Make sure to have a variety of combinations of grab and enjoy snacks around.

If the weekend indulgence is too many pieces of pizza ( uh – easy to do!!) My personal strategy is to eat a huge huge salad before having pizza. I simply don’t want as many pieces then!! I think this strategy works well for all kinds of second helping temptations. I also have pizza seriously loaded with veggies.

Perhaps the over doing is empty calorie consumption like a second or third glass of wine. My policy on that is when I drink, I have one drink and two waters, I just keep the ratio like that, If I have more than one drink that’s a choice I make, but I keep myself actively drinking other things as well. This especially works at a party!

If your workout regime is regimented during the week and not so on the weekend, take a look at that. Perhaps the weekend is family activity full, or too many errands or maybe you do nothing for an entire day ( which in my mind is called relaxing – and equally good for you!) I apply the 10 minute daily “do something” rule. I wake up, drink a huge glass of water and do “something”. Might be a quick walk around the block, might be a dance in my pajama’s to the Beatles, it might be a nice stretch routine. I do this each and every day no matter what. I feel better about myself, it’s more than doing nothing, and if its the best I can do that day. I don’t sweat it.

The “don’t sweat it” part is to remind yourself that you are doing the very best you can. If you are not doing, then by all means be hard on yourself, but if the efforts are there and consistant – that’s important to acknowledge.

The point of all this commentary is that this is lifestyle. Weight management is a life long job. It’s really not a temporary project. The choices you make now are life long rewarding. I thank myself for the resilience our body human offers us. I was not so good to mine in my younger years. I took my well being for granted. As we get older the it doesn’t really matter attitude all of a sudden matters.

I wish for you… happy choices. Choices that you make for you and your well being!

Lastly, I personally have stopped watching the scale for the ups and down reminders. If I am truly committed to my well being, the long term result of that will be continued and or maintained weight loss.

Oh Happy New Years Resolutions to you…

Woman’s First Magazine touts our ”inch loss program” and it’s secret ingredient Leucine, as the amazing amino acid that speeds the burning of fat!!

UCLA research states 33% of woman are not getting enough protein building blocks in their diets!

In particular Leucine deficiencies are often to blame for the buildup of subcutaneous fat!

(the adipose tissue that adds extra layers to the surface of the body!!)

Increased leucine levels signal the body to shed this stubborn surface fat!!!

Are you deficient of this amino acid??

Leucine deficiencies include: fatigue, muscle weakness, cramps, headaches, dizziness, blue moods, irritability, brain fog, frequent infections, slow wound healing.

Want to learn more about our leucine rich weight loss program?

‘Tis the season for eating!!!

I can hear my indulging commentary to myself

oh why fight it, it’s the holiday season – after all – it is really all about the food! I’ll be REALLY good AFTER the holidays.

( in holiday forked tongue what that really means is weeks and weeks of being really really bad )

I’ll binge now and worry about it later

( sort of like, I’ll shove it in faster than I ever did before because come January I am going on a diet!! )

Sound familiar?

Once upon a time I was a whopping size huge.

At size hefty I thought how could ANY weight loss really make a difference?

OH gee – I lost 10 lbs – Only 100 plus lbs to go! Now what?

Forget it.

One brownie became 3 brownies simply because what difference did it make?

In the bigger (ha!) picture of things I was already BIG.

Do fat people have someone to talk to about these things?

How bad does it have to get to shift from hefty to healthy?

How horrible did it have to be?

For me?

I got scared. Really really scared. I also got embarrassed. I looked in the mirror. I faced my skepticism. I took on some AMAZING weight loss products that helped the weight and inch loss process, but mostly I allowed myself room to be REALLY real.

I asked myself what monster had I created?

I did something about it.

Five things made a difference for me …and still do.

water the only beverage of choice

snacks in this order; protein, vegetables, fruit, carbs

movement - like get up and just walk – forget the gym membership save that for later when you’ll actually go

immediate success – seeing some weight come off for me was truly inspirational

habits – notice them – DO something about them.

These five things are certainly not rocket science.

They are definitely not something that everyone doesn’t already know.

Did you know that yo-yo dieting increases risks of health concerns by 70%?

Dieting is bad for you! Yo-yo dieting in particular.

For years now I have shifted lifestyle. I lost weight!

I’ve kept the weight off!!

Years later I continue to lose. ( I’ve lost 5 sizes! )

Why?

Do we hear weight success stories all the time?

Sure.

Well — this one is mine and I am damn proud of it.

Perhaps you see a bit of yourself in my story.

More than anything perhaps you can find a bit of inspiration to give yourself that kick in the size ah-hem pants and get on the path to health.

Best yet, imagine if we all took on weight loss, or better yet eating for health!!

We’d alter a frightening epidemic health issue.

We’d Change The World One Pound At A Time!

Here we go … again. It’s diet time!!

Often the goal to loose weight shoots out of the new year cannon and then fizzles ever so quietly. It’s always a great idea.

Where’s the actual tenacity to make it happen?

Diets are a kick start. We need them to launch us into a layer of confidence that says…I can do this.

What’s a good diet?

Well, that depends.

Basically, a good diet is one that you will actually do. One that will help you lose weight, one that will teach you healthy eating – that is, if healthy eating is actually what you want. So many want to lose the weight and not necessarily make changes to keep the weight off.

Many weight loss programs left me starved, bored or unable to manage with my lifestyle.

I finally found something that is a fit for me.

This inch loss program works with my chemistry, my lifestyle and keeps providing me results.

Some thoughts about dieting:

A weight loss meal replacement shake with hershey’s chocolate syrup, slathered with whip cream is probably not an ideal breakfast.

A Wendy’s cheeseburger might be a serving of protein and bread, but not necessarily a healthy DAILY choice for dinner.

A specific program has it’s chemistry, doing the “make it up as I go sally version” might mess with the science behind the program. Try it — as is, for 30 days and see if it’s a fit for you.

Eating a huge snickers bar in cognito during the drive through car wash counts, even if noone sees you

French Fries are not exactly part of the food guide pyramid.

Ketchup is SO not a vegetable, that high fructose corn syrup is something worth adding to your lists of ingredients not to eat

flickr image credit

No one needs chocolate, we understand we want it, but do we really really need it?

Okay Okay perhaps chocolate has it’s health benefits

Coffee is not a healthy beverage of choice.

Skip the diet coke – seriously, just stop drinking them.

As a wellness consultant I have sometimes felt ill equipped to handle the emotional attachments to food or choices someone might make. You would feel perplexed too if some who wanted to loose weight insisted that daily fast food and whip cream are a fine part of any weight loss program.

I question the commitment healthy lifestyle with the above kindof thinking.

I say this not to be mean or to judge, but to wonder outloud.

Can we be on diet and still eat fast food? Why?

Can we really want to lose weight and still be eating whipping cream? For breakfast?

Help me understand.

Ask yourself this –

Are you really committed to your health and well being?

If you are then that’s where my expertise, and inch loss products can be of assistance.

EGCG is the easy way of saying epigallocatechin gallate, a naturally occurring polyphenolff

Found also in green tea, EGCG has been shown in clinical studies to boost thermogenesis and boost metabolism.

EGCG helps burn calories and has been shown to promote fat oxidation (the burning of fat for energy).

Clinical studies for this ingredient were conducted using 270 mg of EGCG, the same amount that is provided in our 3-in-1 Boost

The most common question asked about EGCG is — is it a caffeine ?

EGCG is not caffeine in that it’s not a stimulant. Green tea does contain naturally occurring caffeine, of which the dosage is much lower than one finds in a regular cup of coffee. My understanding is that naturally occurring caffeine releases very slowly into the blood stream.

thank you field communications for the above definition.

There are several components to our inch loss regime – one, is the ingredient Leucine.

It is found in our meal replacement and snack bars

Leucine is an essential amino acid, which cannot be manufactured in the body and is part of the three branched-chain-amino-acids.

Supplements and protein powders that contain leucine are used extensively by bodybuilders and other athletes to promote muscle recovery.

Among the most beneficial and effective supplements in any sports nutrition program are the branched chain amino acids which includes the essential amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine.

Leucine deficiencies are often to blame for the buildup of subcutaneous fat - the adipose tissue that adds extra layers to the surface of the body!!

Increased leucine levels signal the body to shed this stubborn surface fat!!!

Are you deficient of this amino acid??

Leucine deficiencies include: fatigue, muscle weakness, cramps, headaches, dizziness, blue moods, irritablity, brain fog, frequent infections, slow wound healing.

Hypoglycemia symptoms may appear if the diet is deficient and could include dizziness, fatigue, headaches, irritability etc.

Leucine may benefit body composition.

Researchers from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign noted in a review that part of the benefit of a higher protein diet for weight loss may be due in part to increased intake of the branched chain amino acid (BCAA), leucine.1

A small study of five lean women compared to five women with abdominal obesity found lower rates of leucine release in obese women following a 22-hour fast, indicating preservation of body protein during weight loss. 2

Our healthy weight loss program has many elements to it.

A signature component and a product I simply adore is our green, red and white tea also called “liquid ooomph”
The FDA prohibits nutritional companies from making medicinal claims regarding this incredibly valuable product, however if you do your research, you will discover that this is a tea that you will want to drink every single day due to the long list of benefits.
Here is the benefits of one nutrient element of green tea – Taurine:

*provides detoxifying properties

*provides antioxidant properties, and guards cellular tissue against toxic substances

*causes fat solubilization

*increases the production of bile in the liver (helps keep bile in a liquid state, and is less likely to form gallstones)

*critical for brain development – is used to treat anxiety, epilepsy, hyperactivity, poor brain function and seizures.

*critical for eye health … a deficiency causes retinal degeneration … adequate amounts of taurine reduce the risk of macular degeneration

*stabilizes cell membranes in electrically active tissues such as the brain & heart. In the heart it strengthens the heart muscle and helps stabilize arrhythmias by keeping potassium and magnesium inside the cells and keeping excess sodium out.

*helps regulate blood pressure and reduces serum cholesterol levels

*acts like a diuretic, without the side effects of pharmaceutical diuretics

*reduces symptoms of Type 1 or insulin-dependant diabetes by strengthening the beta cells in the pancreas

*helps people with cystic fibrosis to digest fats more successfully

*provides respiratory protection and is useful in the treatment of Asthma

the above information was sourced from an email from martha wilmore nutritionist

Let’s Change The World: One Pound at a Time

‘Tis the season for eating!!!

I can hear my indulging commentary to myself

oh why fight it, it’s the holiday season – after all – it is really all about the food! I’ll be REALLY good AFTER the holidays.

( in holiday forked tongue what that really means is weeks and weeks of being really really bad )

I’ll binge now and worry about it later

( sort of like I’ll shove it in faster than I ever did before because come January I am going on a diet!! )

Sound Familiar?

Once upon a time I was a whopping size huge.

At size hefty I thought how could ANY weight loss really make a difference?

OH gee – I lost 10 lbs – Only 100 plus lbs to go! Now what?

Forget it.

One brownie became 3 brownies simply because what difference did it really make?

In the bigger (ha!) picture of things I was already BIG.

Do fat people have someone to talk to about these things?

How bad does it have to get to shift from hefty to healthy?

How horrible did it have to be?

For me?

I got scared. I also got embarrassed. I looked in the mirror. I faced my skepticism. I took on some AMAZING weight loss products that helped the weight and inch loss process, but mostly I allowed myself room to be REALLY real.

I asked myself what monster had I created?

For years I shifted lifestyle. I lost weight!

I’ve kept the weight off!!

Years later I continue to lose.
