Local High School Theatre – Mother Earth is Proud.

My Kate and part of her fellow cast made the front page of the local newspaper yesterday as their performance of Arthur Millers All My Son’s opened last night.

Kate has had an impressive 3 years of opportunity at her high school to perform in a large variety of plays and musicals. This was her first dramatic lead role.

I didn’t want to read this script as I wanted to experience the play without knowing. For weeks the discussion and concern was about knowing her lines – memorizing, memorizing, memorizing!

Then one day a few weeks ago she declared, I know it – now I can be it! After seeing the play I now understood what she means.

I lost of bit of my daughter these past few weeks, she came home from rehearsal tired she said, I say she came home drained. This role took a part of her.

Sitting in the audience I felt one thing the most – intense. This story and this play was very intense. Not a happy shiny all is well, but utter drama – intense.

As a parent I marvel as my Kate undertook this personification of another being, one who suffered great loss and showed remarkable strength. I marvel at the rest of the cast as they too personified. Even more and knowing and watching some of these kids for the last 6 years – I marvel at how far they have come.

The director and teacher has this understated style about him, the kids adore him, more importantly they respect him. I respect him as well. His vision, guidance and mentorship definitely showed up on stage.

I applaud my daughter, her knowing, her tenacity and her courage.

My gosh I love her to bits.

Ben, Kate and Anna

  1. Karen. I adore how you “Kvell” about “my Kate.” Knowing about the challenges Kate overcame to become the wife and mother in this poignant play, I say, “Brava Kate!” and a “Mazel Tov” to you “Proud Mama!” Sheila
