I left the house 11 hours ago and feel a bit like a whipped dog. One of my things to do today was grocery shopping.
Ever come home from the grocery store with nothing to eat? I didn’t actually do that, but what I intended to actually make I just didn’t feel like making.
In a creative what can I make really quick moment, I poached chicken breasts in garlic and broth with some curry powder. Chopped that up with an entire shredded carrot, some safflower mayo, white pepper and raisens. I toasted some ezekial brand sprouted grain buns (I am experimenting with different breads now, since the crystaline fructose discovery in natural ovens) added some havarti sliced cheese, extra thin sliced cucumber and mounded the chicken salad over each half. I toasted some sunflower seeds in a dry pan and sprinkled those on top. YUM!
This was actually remarkably delicious and I totally made it up!
I don’t know about you, but this time of year I can’t pee enough niacin, the calling for asparagus is just huge – I just adore them, so we had some of those too.
Plus a few amazing fresh strawberries for dessert.
So much for not what you planned !

today was dreary, this wonderful black and white exemplifies that flickr image credit

How do you celebrate Earth Day?
If you’re not cleaning green – what’s stopping you?
I just finished a piece of research that says the American facination with bigger is better (in fruit and vegitables anyway)has evolved into a continuous harvest of beautiful, large nutrtionally devoid of value produce. What do you think? Is is time to put in our own personal acres of heirloom veggies?
Hi Reg,
years ago and somewhere in the bowels of my paper files – do you have those?
I have paper files now in storage and have converted to electronic files – of which there are oodles of great things buried in the bowels of also….
anyway there was a wonderful study comparing the nutrient value of organics to commercial veegatables. One example shared the difference in the iron found one tomatoe vs the other and it was significant, the organics of course was more nutritionally valid.
I’d LOVE to see living off the land become the norm again – wouldn’t you?
in the meantime even though purchasing organics is pricier I know the industry is increasing – I feel my purchasing supports that, and I am all for putting my money there rather than fuel commercial product
One of my neighbors has a coop garden, and somewhere I read about community composting which I find wonderfully intriguing
in the meantime I have a small patch of tomatoes, basil and this year I want to experiment with lettuces, although the big bunny in my yard might get dibs on that before my family does
what about you reg, do you don some overalls and have a hobby garden at least??
PS share that research you mentioned please
I’ve sold my home and am in an apartment just now.The article came from Psychology Today in the Food Chain section titled “Nature’s Bounty” begining on page 59
is the article on line, reg? I’ll look
I am in an apt too. But we have a small yard, I am lucky that I can have a small space there Perhaps in your neighborhood someone would appreciate a hand in their garden. I know my single neighbor shares her land with the family down the street, the kids love it
