In 27 days my son is getting his own apartment. It’s really rather like business as usual while our Kate is away at camp, both he and I are working alot.
He landed a great college kid no- brainer job. Good hours – good minimum wage – free food. Ha! Additionally over the summer he worked a catering job - sometimes 18 hour days so he could make the whole moving thing happen. I am remarkably proud of him. I have been posting about cooking 101, which has been a great way for us to test the mother /son relationship and how it’s changing.
There was a moment tonight at dinner when he told me today how he’s “upselling” at his job. A customer was pondering a sweet treat and he told him, “ya know we pour happiness right from the can as one of the ingredients for those“
The guy bought one. Who wouldn’t?
My son is not one of many words. Keeps to himself. The person I know him to be here at home is very different from the who he is in the outside world — I hear he’s fantastic. ( I know that!)
Every so often I get a glimse of the charm, the wit, the sassy dry humor, the dashing smile.
WOW – I’m really going to miss him
I took this pic

Strawberries and Summer Symmetry
short post
I bought the most amazing strawberries.
Ever have them with spinach and pecans ? Talk about summer symmetry. ( is that spelled right?)
I first had that combination at a natural ovens bread convention in Milwaukee – would you believe I actually went to one of those?
were talkin circa late ’70′s
ha!!
Tonights fresh and raw included the above ingredients plus garbanzo’s, parmesan slivers, yellow peppers, marinated artichoke, cucumber and parsley
It’s really about all that harmony on one’s tastebuds
YUM

Healthy Care Packages for Your College Student.
One thing I hate about shopping is the predictable marketing churn. I completely get that stores are all about “what’s next” in the retail arena, but it makes me crazy thinking about back to school and fall clothing in July!! Couldn’t we wait until August? Like later in August? I am just not ready to think about all that back to school stuff.
The truth is the churn is there for a reason. In just a few weeks moms all over the country start shipping their college age kids back to dorm room abyss, mass produced studying ( we hope ) and unfortunately illness. Mid August we can count on seasonal allergies flaring. College students will experience poor food choices ( either by design – dorm food – ugh – or by default ) I know my freshman year I gained 10lbs. ( I was particularly fond of kit kats, and bologna) We see alot of virus’s, flu, and colds from reduced immune function and or stress.
What’s a mom to do? If you have a willing youth, consider arming them with some high quality supplementation. It’s a small price to pay for some nutritional insurance.
I will do all I can to encourage and support any college student who wants to be vibrant, healthy and alert for school what that looks like is free shipping, and any guidance they can handle.

Summer – I Missed it Today
I pride myself in being mindful of the perfect day, the perfect work day ( according to me anyway) I strive at getting to all that needs to be taken care of re: running a home single handedly – figuratively and literally. At times I have been very on purpose about these things. When it works and when it’s by design then it’s really something to say hey I actually made all that happen. I created it.
My current days, work days, work weeks and getting it all taken care of are a bit of blur lately. What can I say — there is alot going on. It’s just not happening the way I would like. Things are getting taking care of but it seems they are getting done with a price attached to them – namely the price is me. I’m missing out.
By design, today was the day to do my month end mailing, pay the bills and place an order. Simple enough. By design and by day I mean by the date – I do these tasks on the 29th of the month. Today however was a Sunday. Typically a day off. Sunday is indeed a day off and it’s also a domestic day that includes laundry. So today, instead of being a day off that includes a bit of laundry, it became a month end, bill paying, order taking, bit of laundry kind of day. OK – I can handle that. Add to that the fact that my son was off from work today and my day became an eat brunch, teach him to cook, bit of laundry, month end mailing, pay the bills, mountain of dishes, oh and maybe I should vacuum kind of day.
I can list my accomplishments for the day and be grateful. The month end mailing is complete, bills are indeed paid, the order was placed, meals were prepared and laundry was done, ironed – with a white load soaking. Whew. Another month before I do that again, and gee next Sunday there will be more laundry – can’t wait
Tonight the dishes are heaping, the kitchen table is stacked, the bathroom still needs cleaning and I didn’t get to the hardware store — worse things I suppose could have happened.
I’m sitting here typing.
Is that by design or is it because I feel like these words are stuck in my head?
I am feeling remorse for the day gone by.
The whole point of even saying any of this has nothing to do with what got done or what didn’t. It’s about the fact that it was a totally stunning summer day today. I can’t believe that it was an absolutely stunning summer day out and I completely missed it. I wanted to be out in it – revel in it’s gift to me. I said to myself often — well after this I’ll take a break, and I just never did. Why?
I remember when my kids were little and I was a bit anal about structure – truth is I felt better when things operated tic – toc . Made my kids world predictable – reliable. Safe. Maybe it was me who needed that. One could set their clock by when we sat down to dinner. What I could never figure out is why all the neighbor kids were out at our dinner time and that the mom’s were sitting on their porches drinking beer or margarita’s. When did they make dinner?? I always seemed to be the only mom making dinner while every one else was outside enjoying the summer. I could have joined them, but who would make our dinner?? I still had to bathe my kids and read them a bed time story
When did they eat, when did they do their dishes?? Don’t those kids ever go to bed? I always felt like my world was different then their world.
Tonight at 11PM – in between loads of laundry - I walked the dog. It was just delicious out. Full moon, a bit of a breeze – Ahhhhhh I could hardly stand it. I walked for 45 minutes. Why wasn’t every one else outside? My world is so seemingly different
Now I’m completely wired for sound and typing.
Where is the design? Where is the creation? I have no rythme (sp ?) or reason.
I could easily have taken today off. It’s Sunday for gosh sakes – day of rest. However after a 5 day respite and another pending trip I had to follow my rules – I do this on the 29th of the month. By design – sunday or summer this #@! had to get done!!
Yeah Right! Flickr image credit – circa 1939 – wow

Sizzle Twizzle Bo Dizzle
Have you ever heard of sizzle cards? I first heard of it from a guy who sold for a mulit-level-marketing company that is now no longer in business. It struck me as sortof sleazy. He basically would hand every one he met this business card which encouraged folks to call this phone number to learn how they too could be making millions. I thought if someone is handing out sizzle cards at the local train station how could he be rolling in the dough? Turns out he made a 6 figure income. He loved meeting people and he was very dynamic!! Handing out sizzle cards was one way to meet folks. It personally made me really uncomfortable
However when I lost all that weight ( 56 lbs!!), I wanted a single tool that could give everyone I met immediate guidance to quality weight loss information without me having to really say much. I didn’t want to wear a button that said “ask me how much weight I’ve lost ?” UGH – that is just way too cheesy. So I had this idea to make a cool – non sleazy – something I was comfortable handing out – sizzle card and took it to graphic designer and marketing wizard John Scalletta of Digital Studio Inc.
He made me this REALLY awesome sizzle card!!
When ever I was around other sales leaders or something and I would show them what I was doing - they wanted some too. Needless to say I was able to give John a few referrals. To sweeten the pot he added a design for banners, and added another look for an additional product line. All of a sudden we were in the sales aid business!! Well not exactly, but it could become that way after our national convention which is coming up next week. Just for the occasion John created a webpage just for our sizzle stuff! I am so excited! He also printed some sizzle cards just for me to talk about and share ( or sizzle – ha!) at convention. He’s positively brilliant and totally sizzlin’
